new life

we went to dinner last night at a mexican restaurant (yummmmy!) that i wish i had found two years ago instead of right before we want to move away from here. the last thing i said to Gracie Mae before we left was "Don't you have those babies before we get back!"
she waited, starting labor contractions less than 30 minutes after we got home.
by the time she was done, five new lives had entered the world. every one of them healthy, and no stillbirths. she is such a good mom, protective and attentive. i was worried because we had been told that all her previous litters had been born dead, and so i wasn't sure how she would react. now i wonder if what we had been told was true. but macht nichts.
five varying shades of her orange coloring, some with her tortoiseshell markings, others with stripes. one of the two pale orange ones has no markings as yet. and of course, whether they are male or female will be seen later.

appropriate coloring for the first day of october, the color of fall leaves.

  2. Beautiful things.
I wonder whether her earlier births were at a time when she was too undernourished herself to have healthy babies?

    1. I think that probably played a big part, but considering that the %$#&#@ that had her wanted to know if dead kittens could be used for fish bait, and was planning to kill Gracie with a shovel blow to the head, I suspect he may have assisted in their demise.
