elk ...

these were taken on the drive down. they are difficult to see because it was just after sunrise, so still a little dark, and the sky was overcast and raining. david wanted to get out of the car to get closer and try to take a picture, but i didn't think that was such a good idea, not knowing if elk would charge like a moose might.

 he stood so still that at first i thought it was a decoy to trap off-season poachers shooting from the road, but then he moved.
he was just so incredible to see, and just so calm, like he didn't have a care in the world that we stopped to take pictures.
