forget ... in 5

GO:
it's easy to forget that he will be 12 this summer
he acts like such a kid at times
running in the snow
jumping around like he is 2 or 3

but there are signs
signs i want to ignore
things i want to forget i saw
the cloudiness in his eyes
his fear over the smallest things
the way he shakes at times

this heat vent in the floor
a marilyn monroe vent with just 3-4 inches to spare on either side
it terrifies him now
i have to stand on it and gently encourage him to cross
so he can either get into the bedroom or into the living room
he tip-toes on the small piece of floor to the left

he sleeps a lot more
eats a lot less, even tho his food is readily available to him
he wants to always be close to one of us

it is tearing my heart out in big chunks and pieces
i just went through all this last summer
with his bff, oreo, brother from another mother
and i haven't yet forgotten that raw pain
i doubt i ever will

his new bff, aragorn, brother from another mother
sleeps close to him at night and during the day
when he thinks i'm not watching, i see him giving kisses

i want to forget this part of him
because i know i will never
ever
ever
forget him

STOP

  1. Heartfelt hugs.
I feel your pain. And remember my own.

  2. Hugs, hugs, hugs.

We have a sanctuary for the unwanted and abused...and numbers do not diminish heartache. They are all special, they are all loved...I just hope I love them with the strength with which they love me.

  3. So hard to see our sweet pets grow old, isn't it? My thoughts and prayers are with you.
