once upon a witness protection lifetime ago, i lived in california
on the wrong side of the san andreas fault line for some of those years
i lived on the side that would eventually slide into the ocean and create all new 'beach front' property in LA County (according to doomsday preppers anyway)
here in the UP, we have our own kind of fault lines and striations in the snow
not exactly an indicator of how much has fallen, mostly just how much has been plowed off the roads
but seeing the layers makes me think of geologists drilling cores in the arctic to age the ice and glaciers.
the layers here are just indicators of how sick and tired we are of winter, and how much we are longing for spring
